My new mic

Pretty little one-eyed monster, ain’t it?

Well, I finally went off and did it. I finally went and really got a real microphone. That little pretty one eyed monster up there, is a MXL USB.009 microphone.

Of course, I had to get a shock mount and a stand for it. And I will tell you this, you really have to be really careful about putting them stands together. Because if you don’t, you can be in a world of hurt.

Let’s just say that, I found out the hard way; as to what happens when you try to mount one of these things using the clamp Mount and you don’t have it on a perfectly level surface. It was not pretty and I almost dropped a really nice microphone in the floor, good thing I can catch!

Well, needless to say; a few drops of sweat, a few swear words and a couple puffs off of my vaporizer later and I had it all set up.

Yes, I know it leans just a little bit. There ain’t much I can do about that. It’s the way that it is mounted. it is as solid as a rock and that clamp is not going to move. The whole desk will fall apart, before that clamp will move. I got it on there good and tight. But, because of where it’s mounted it leans a little bit. But, I now have the blue-eyed leaning tower of microphone….

lovely. 🙄

Needless to say; it sounds very good, it’s  the best I’ve ever sounded on this Kenwood 950SDX. For the record, it’s a USB microphone; that’s primarily designed for podcasting or vidcasting. But, doing a little trick by sending the audio from the sound card speaker output to the input of the radio via a Heil sound adapter for a Heik pro-set Plus, I can send audio to the radio and it works rather well.

I just got to remember to keep the levels down, so I don’t overdrive the radio. 😯

Heck, I was even goofing around with a program called audacity and listening to my voice through this microphone, after I added some of the processing; I think I may have the makings here of a new career as a voice-over artist. I’m definitely going to check it out maybe shopping around some demos. You never can tell, you may hear me on a commercial sometime or another. 🙂

So, that’s what’s new here at amateur radio station K8CPA I got a new microphone and I’m loving every bit of it. 🙂

73 for now…

Update:

I changed things up a bit:

I changed it a little

I was doing some tinkering around with this microphone and audio comparisons and I have found that it sounds better, when this microphone is mounted like this; instead of the way I had it, as pictured above.
